High duty on machinery keeps India out of $8 bn medical textile market
Despite the fact that the Asian region commands the highest market share for medical textiles (33.41 per cent!), India does not have a single plant for manufacturing spunbonded fabrics which are used in these textiles.

Acrylic fibre manufacturers in the country have resorted to closure of production in an attempt to curb the growing inventory size as also to bring about a desired demand-supply equilibrium in the market.

Cotton blends displace other fibres in domestic consumption: Study
Cotton is losing its hold as the preferred fibre in the country, even as cotton blends are displacing other fibres. A recent study conducted by the Textiles Committee, reveals that the share of cotton in household purchases has taken a severe beating in the last decade, while consumption of cotton blend textiles have picked up significantly.

TxC to design administrative mechanism Pending BG/EMD cases to be resolved soon
The Textile Commissioner’s office would soon put in place an administrative mechanism to dispose of the cases pending with regard to BG/EMD forfeiture relating to RMG exporters.
