Sowing
in full swing in cotton states

With
spot prices ruling steady, cotton lint prices showed increased tendency
during the last fortnight of June, South India Cotton Association
(SICA) has said.
Sellers
were waiting for higher prices, while buyers were limited only for
selected qualities and varieties, SICA, in it market report for
the period, said.
Barring
Tamil Nadu, all other cotton growing states received good rains
and sowing operations were in full swing, it said.
While
the acreage under cotton was reported to be 15 per cent less than
the previous year in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan belts, it was
10 per cent lower compared to last year in Gujarat, SICA said.
In
Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra also sowing operations had started
all over the state following good to heavy rains. Despite few transactions,
prices were on the higher side for ready lots to the extent of Rs
1,000 to Rs 1,500 per candy in Andhra Pradesh. According to quality,
MECH-1 ruled from Rs 15,600 to Rs 17,500 per candy in this belt,
the report said.
