Govt hikes 10th plan allocation for sericulture by 30%
PTI - New Delhi

The government has hiked the tenth five year plan allocation for the sericulture sector by 30 per cent over the previous plan to Rs 454 crore, minister of state for textiles, Mr Basanagouda R Patil said recently.

“The tenth plan budget of sericulture sector has been increased by 30 per cent over the ninth plan to Rs 454 crore and Rs 186 crore from this has been kept aside for centrally sponsored scheme,” he said addressing a seminar on marketing development assistance scheme, organised by the silk exporters council here.

Mr Patil said the government had taken several steps to relieve the silk farmers from the hardships caused due to the decline in raw silk and silk cocoon sales.

The domestic prices have been adversely affected by the recessional pressure of the global economy, decline in price of raw silk and accumulation of unsold stocks due to the financial difficulties of state apex societies, he said.
