Biotech crops reduces the use of pesticides: Monsanto
PTI - New Delhi

Seed producer Monsanto has claimed that pesticide use in North America has been reduced by 21 million kgs in past few years owing to the use of biotech crops.

The use of pesticides has decreased in crops such as corn, canola, cotton, squash and soyabeans, a company release said here.

The capability to further reduce pesticide use looks even better as the 32 biotech plants, which are currently being developed, have the potential to decrease pesticide use by another 74 million kgs, it said.

The environmental lobby groups who have been waging a war against the use of pesticides have remained silent about this very positive environmental development, it said adding that decrease in pesticide use has occurred due to new plant genetics developed by biotechnology.
