PHDCCI asks MP govt to set up model textile city near Indore

PHDCCI has suggested to the Madhya Pradesh government to set up a model textile city near Indore with adequate land reserved for a residential township.

In the background paper for the PHDCCI workshop on ‘Strategy for development of textile and garment industry in Madhya Pradesh’, held here recently, the chamber has visualised the model textile city as a single industry township having small, medium and large textile units covering spinning, weaving, knitting and garment manufacturing units, a PHDCCI release said.

It further suggested that the textile city be fully equipped with wholesale as well as retail markets and malls for items of manufacture, common facilities including common effluent treatment plants (CTPs), telecommunication network, warehousing facilities, business centres, conference halls, recreation centres and others, it said.

The PHDCCI also advised the state government to double its spinning capacity from the present level of about one million to two million spindles, install 1,000 shuttleless looms, four fabric process houses of equivalent capacity and 1,000 circular knitting machines over the next ten years.

The move taken in this direction would generate sustainable direct employment for over 25,000 people in addition to 1.5 lakh people to be employed in the apparel industry, the release said adding, in addition to direct employment, numerous opportunities of indirect employment will also emerge as a result of multiplier effect.
