With
competition getting tough, modern and superior technology is employed
in knitting, processing and finishing processes of the knitwear
industry. Processing being the most crucial stage in the value-addition
chain, utmost care is taken by the industry. With the use of modern
technology like softflow etc, the processing industry has undergone
a paradigm shift. Quality is more pronounced with the use of speciality
dyes and chemicals, imported from different parts of the world.
In many a cases, the exporting community complains of the high cost
of dyeing. Damage of the fabrics in the process and re-dyeing of
the lots are some of the common problems faced.
In
order to avoid these hassles in the dyeing process, Mr P Balakrishhan
of Velan Dyeing reiterates the optimum use of inputs and good quality
yarn. He is a veteran entrepreneur, who has 20 years of experience
in the sector. According to him, many garment manufacturers compromise
on the quality of the yarn. Inferior quality yarn has excessive
hairiness, neps, etc. Using such yarns results in frequent damages
in knitting. Uniform absorbency traits are seldom found in such
yarns. Variance in GSM, unavailability of sizing attributes are
commonly reported after the completion of the dyeing process. The
neps do not absorb the dyes and reflect as white dots in the fabric,
says Mr Balakrishnan. Owing to the poor strength of the yarn, the
fabric quality is affected and the number of visible damages like
small opening, etc increases. Excessive use of dyes and repeated
dyeing process escalates the dyeing cost, which offsets the savings
of yarn procurement. It is imperative the manufacturers observe
diligence in these nuances and avoid needless problems, he states.
