Eastman
retiree receives Textile Chemists and Colorists Awards
Max
A Weaver, Eastman Chemical Company retired research associate, has
been named the recipient of The Olney Medal and the Henry E Millson
Award for Invention from the American Association of Textile Chemists
and Colorists (AATCC).
Weaver
received the Olney Medal for his overall outstanding achievements
in textile chemistry and the Millson Award for his discovery and
development of azo dyes for polyesters and polyamides. This is the
first time the AATCC has presented two of its most prestigious awards
to one individual.
Formed
in 1921, the AATCC is the worlds largest technical and scientific
society devoted to the advancement of textile chemistry. The Olney
Medal was established in 1944 to recognize outstanding achievement
in textile chemistry, polymer chemistry or other fields of chemistry
of major importance to textile science. The Millson Award for Invention,
created in 1979, recognizes outstanding contributions to textile
wet processing technology. During Weavers 29-year career with
Eastman, his achievements in textile dyes for polyesters and polyamides
enabled the company to become a world supplier of dyes for more
than three decades. "I have always enjoyed coming to work,"
commented Weaver. "I dont know of anything that I would
have enjoyed working with more than dyes."
