Industry welcomes FM’s decision on powerlooms, garments
The finance minister, Mr Jaswant Singh, with the passage of the Finance Bills, has exempted from excise duty unprocessed fabrics and unbranded, woven and knitted readymade garments up to the first clearance of Rs 25 lakh manufactured by handlooms with a turnover of Rs 30 lakh.

Mumbai-based Ranjit Silk Mills has launched a new range of school uniform fabrics for the coming academic year, under the brand name ‘Darshan’s Valji’.

Walmart, GAP keen to make India sourcing hub
