KVIC’s biggest showroom being given a facelift

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission’s (KVIC) biggest showroom in the national capital, which once played host to Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh, is being given a facelift at the cost of about Rs 2.5 crore.

The 50-year-old showroom, situated in the heart of the national capital, would be made fully air-conditioned and the floor space would be increased by about 3,000 square feet, the KVIC deputy director (media cell) Mr A K Sharan said. The showroom has enjoyed the patronage of eminent leaders like Rajendra Prasad and Jawaharlal Nehru.

The commission also plans to renovate about 100 showrooms throughout the country, though no timeframe has been fixed as yet, he said adding, the present showroom which is being renovated at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore would be thrown open to the public in 5-6 months.

The KVIC hastied up with leading designers including Malini Ramani and Rohit Bal to increase the sale of its designer garments.
