As
globalisation progresses no economy in the world can function on
its own or insulate itself from the sweeping economic changes that
are taking place, Union labour minister, Mr Sahib Singh said here
recently.
Inaugurating
a two-day conference for "Regional Labour Commissioners (Central)
2003", he said the important meeting was specially convened
to discuss issues related to settlement of industrial disputes,
enforcement of labour laws for the welfare of workers and effective
labour administration.
He
said the government had undertaken an earnest exercise to review
the cadre of the central labour service and expressed the hope the
cadre review committee would submit its final report soon and the
government would implement the recommendations. Mr S K Mukhopadhyay,
chief labour commissioner (central), New Delhi, said the minimum
wages for workers was the goal of the ministry.
Mr
P D Shenoy, secretary to government of India, ministry of labour,
said the commissioners should adopt four mantras namely

and case study, while discharging their duties.
