that takes the challenges of a free market head on. India therefore
needs a strong and technologically advanced manufacturing base to
take the challenges of a free a market in all its strength. To achieve
this capability we need the technology of tomorrow: today. A platform

Indian garment manufacturers and exporters with this capability
to face these challenges.
Garment
Technology Expo 2003 - A retrospect
The
second edition of the Garment Technology Expo 2003 proved to be
a great hit with the participants as well as the visitors to the
exhibition. The exhibition met with an unprecedented success amidst
growing concerns amongst Indian garment manufacturers and exporters
to be competitive in the impending free markets scenario. The fact
that more than 600 companies and brands from all around the world
had confirmed their participation was a pointer to the success.
In keeping with the huge participation, more than 16,000 garment
manufacturers and exporters thronged the venue to take a look at
the impressive line up of technology needed to make a garment. The
choice of the venue, being close to the garmenting hub at Okhla
and proximity to other centers like Faridabad, Noida, etc also played
an important role in the huge visitor turnout.
The
refreshing difference
What
set the exhibition apart from many others in the industry was the
sheer size of the space taken up by the exhibitors. Also unique
to the exhibition was the convenience and ease for the visitors
with drive-in parking facility to help them concentrate more on
the critical issues related to business. The exhibition had on display
a complete range of machines and equipments right from CAD/CAM,
cutting and spreading, sewing, embroidery, fusing fabrics etc, encompassing
the complete range of technology required for garmenting.
Worldwide
perspective
The
inauguration and lamp lighting ceremony was jointly chaired by Mr
H Tajima (president Tajima - Japan), Mr Saisuke (chairman - Barudan

launched for the first time in the world, which could do nalki,
zardozi and other intricate hand embroidery work.
Similarly
HCA Garment Machines had a range of innovative products and attachments
that could do many functions without much hassle like the Digital

by the garment manufacturers. IIGM had a very large variety of machines
on display from the likes of Juki, Barudan, Gerber & others.

A
fresh new perspective
The

fresh perspective to the way the entire event was planned. The general
consensus of the visitors was therefore a pleasant surprise at the
convenience that the venue offered. The convenience factor in terms
of location and parking etc was a boon in disguise for conducting
business.
Excellence:
A tradition
The
motto of being better than the best has been a tradition with Garment
Technology Expo. No wonder Garment Technology Expo 2003 International
emerged as the largest and truly international technology show that
the Indian garment manufacturers and exporters would have desired.
The presence of many senior executives of foreign principals from
different parts of the world is a testimony to the fact that the
organisers have put India on the map of truly world class exhibitions
that are held all over the world.
2004:
The beginning of a challenge
While
past achievements have been pointers one must look at the scenario
of the future. While India has made rapid strides in terms of technology
upgradation, much needs to be done in terms of achieving worldwide
quality benchmarks. Therefore a complete display of technology is
imperative for achieving these challenges. Garment Technology Expo
has done that in 2003 and 2004 will be no different. The best just
gets better.
