Indian
delegations explore business potential in China
PTI
- New Delhi
In
a bid to iron out critical issues constraining trade between India
and China and to identify niche areas for enhancing business relations
with the Chinese industry, a 25-member FICCI delegation is visiting
Beijing and Shanghai from June 22.
The
business delegation, whose visit to China will coincide with the
prime minister Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayees visit to the country,
would discuss the problems in negotiating LCs due to weak banking
links as this could affect steel exports to China in its joint business
council meeting with China Council for Promotion of International
Trade.
It
would also look into the possibility of exchanging tariff lines
under the Bangkok Agreement in thrust sectors of mutual interest,
FICCI said.
Meanwhile,
a 10-member ASSOCHAM delegation is also accompanying the PM. The
delegation, aimed at forming partnerships with Chinese counterparts,
is exploring possibilities for establishing contacts with the commodity-based
organisations to facilitate visits of the delegation subsequently,
ASSOCHAM said.
The
chamber would sponsor three delegations to China - a delegation
of the textile and pharma industries, an importers and exporters
delegation, and one on telecommunication and IT, particularly to
study the Chinese model of business process outsourcing (BPO).
Other
members of the delegation include CMD of Ginni Filaments, and past
chairman of ICMF, Mr Rajaram Jaipuria, alternate president of ASSOCHAM
Mr M K Sanghi, secretary general ASSOCHAM Mr Jayant Bhuyan, among
others. An ASSOCHAM delegation had visited China last year and signed
MOUs with its counterpart China Council For Promotion Of International
Trade and other organisations.
