Intertextile Shanghai is uniquely placed as a meeting point with key buyers and decision makers

  • The volume of China’s annual garment production continues to climb
  • Shanghai’s World Expo site will create demand for millions of miles of home textiles.

Intertextile has proved beyond doubt that it is the number one venue in China for apparel fabrics and home textiles. Thousands of buyers in Shanghai and the surrounding region, an area rich with textile and apparel companies, rely on Intertextile Shanghai for their sourcing and buying needs, and for upto the minute trend information from around the world.

China is brimming with potential for foreign manufacturers and exporters of textiles and accessories. It is the world’s largest garment producer, with a production of 20 billion pieces in 2002 (enough for every person on the planet to have four items of clothing); as such it has an enormous demand for quality garment fabrics. High end designer label clothing, much of which is destined for export, demands high quality, advanced technology fabric which cannot be bought from domestic suppliers.

Looking forward, Shanghai also anticipates a huge jump in demand for home and interior textiles over the next decade. In 2010, the city will host the World Expo, an event which is expected to stimulate massive growth and development in China’s culture capital. The World Expo is a huge exhibition painting a comprehensive picture of political, economic, cultural, scientific, and social achievements of the host country. Shanghai forecasts that the Expo will attract over 70 million visitors, breaking the records of previous events.

Hundreds of new hotels and other commercial facilities will have to be built to cater for this influx of people - and millions of miles of curtains, carpets and upholstery fabrics will be needed to furnish these new properties. Shanghai estimates it will directly invest US $3 billion in the World Expo site, with extended investment, in projects such as hotels, infrastructure and commercial facilities are reaching anywhere from US $15 billion to US $30 billion.

With its position at the very heart of China’s eastern and central textile centres, Intertextile Shanghai is uniquely placed to offer textile manufacturers from overseas - and from across China - a meeting point with key buyers and decision makers in the industry.
