WOOLTEXPRO to decide on market promotion activities

E-Tex Staff - Mumbai

WOOLTEXPRO, the woollen textiles export promotion council, in its committee meeting on August 13, will be discussing the market promotion activities that need to be undertaken during the year. According to sources, “A number of regions including the EU, Middle East, US, Canada are being looked at, for promoting India’s woollen textiles. Bangladesh could also be an important market for Indian woollen fabrics, for conversion into readymade garments. It is believed that India and Bangladesh could enter into some kind of tie-up in this regard.”

Meanwhile, India’s exports of woollen textiles has not shown any significant performance during the third quarter of 2002-03. Exports stood at US$ 11.91 million during October December 2002, as against exports of US$ 11.87 million during the corresponding period of the previous year.

USA was the largest importer of Indian woollens at US$ 2.17 million, which was lower than the imports during the previous year’s quarter of US$ 2.31 million, a fall of 5.79 per cent. Exports to Italy also fell by 35.90 per cent to US$ 1.16 million (US$ 1.82 million) during the period under consideration. Exports to China rose to US$ 1.02 million (US$ 0.13 million).
