The
phenomenal growth of media and entertainment sector has created
a need for formal training for the make up artists, hitherto employing
self-trained professionals. Perceiving the need to have a professional
training programme for media make up artists, Pearl Academy of Fashion
(PAF) in association with the Developments at the London Institute
(DALI) and London College of Fashion, UK, is introducing a one-year
Diploma programme in Fashion Media Make up and hair styling (FMM)
in September 2003. It is the first time that LCF, pioneer in beauty
and fashion education worldwide, is assisting an institute in India
to offer a course in Fashion Media Make Up and Hairstyling.
PAF
is the first institute in the country to offer a specialized internationally
validated Media Make Up and Hairstyling programme in India. This
initiative assumes significance in light of industry status accorded
to the film industry.
According
to Mr A K G Nair, executive director, Pearl Academy of Fashion With
the Rs 1000 crore Indian cosmetics industry (including service providers)
growing at a healthy rate of 20 per cent per annum; multinational
cosmetic giants making significant in-roads into the Indian market;
and growing awareness about fashion media make up sector, Indian
media has matured to offer phenomenal job opportunities. These factors
have enhanced and necessitated the need for a recognised training
and education centre offering specialized courses in this sector.
This
programme is aimed to provide intensive conceptual and practical
study and training for those aspiring to embark on careers as make
up artists in the fashion and media industry including television,
theatre and films. Trained professional teachers from London along
with specialist faculty from India with relevant industry and academic
background, will partake in teaching so as to create parity with
global standards. External Examiners from London College of Fashion
will ensure that the standards are comparable to similar programmes
in reputed Universities abroad.
Cosmetology
and the art of make up, has emerged as a highly rewarding and remunerative
career. It offers a variety of job options, which are as exciting
as they are fulfilling and well paying. Moreover, the job opportunities
are constantly expanding due to increasing awareness in beauty and
fitness. Factors such as the widespread boom in the audio visual
media highlighting the mega beauty pageants and fashion and lifestyle
features, combined with an increase in the number of women opting
to work outside the home has spurred this industry. The course will
hone confidence and skill of the students to take up live-wire projects
applicable to the workplace and exhibit professional developments.
