Super Fine, Medium Coarse witness downslides
During the week ended August 7, 2003, cotton prices showed declines in both categories. In the Super Fine category, MECH-1 and Shankar-6 both lost 113 points, DCH-32 lost 224 points and MCU-5 dropped 141 points.

Polyester prices are rebounding in China
Polyester prices are now clearly rising in China, as a result of higher demand and a new increase in costs of polyester intermediates, mainly Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG).

Africa’s offensive against US cotton subsidies
Western Africa last May launched an offensive against the United States and the European Union, accused of massively subsidising cotton production, therefore depressing cotton prices on the international market.
