The efforts towards formation of confederation of Indian textile
and clothing industry by Mr Nikhil Meswani, president, Association
of Synthetic Fibre Association should be fully supported by the
textile trade and industry which is currently undergoing a transformation.

The prime minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee has announced on the
Independence Day that a National Kisan Commission will be set up
to study the problems of farmers and that a food chain revolution
will be ushered in, for doubling the average income of farmers by
2010.

The government has conducted "diagnostic studies" of five
craft clusters in Sikkim, Leh, Jodhpur, Puri and Bastar, according
to Mr Basangouda R Patil, minister of state for textile, government
of India.
Bangladesh constitutes working
group for free trade
The Bangladesh government has constituted a free trade working group
(FTWG) involving private sector for consultation in preparation
for reaching free trade agreement with different countries, including
India.
