US wants single WTO
system for developed, developing nations
Opposing the stand of India, Brazil and other major developing countries,
the deputy US trade representative Mr Peter Allgeier said US wants
to achieve "ambitious results" in WTO negotiations and
avoid turning the world trade body into a two-tier system, with
different requirements for developed and developing countries.
Negotiators mull
compromise bid to break talks deadlock
WTO countries have voiced differences in Geneva over the latest
compromise plan for freeing up global trade and breaking a deadlock
in trade negotiations.
Pak, India may exchange
lists of items under SAPTA in October
Pakistan and India may exchange additional lists of items for tariff
concessions under the South Asia Preferential Trade Arrangement
(SAPTA) in October this year to enhance volume of bilateral trade
as the SAARC countries geared up to finalise the much awaited South
Asia Free Trade Area (SAFTA).
Indian exporters
should target Africa, L America, China: Exim Bank
Emphasising the market potential in Africa, Latin America and China,
the Exim Bank said Indias export target can be achieved by
increasing trade with these regions where its share currently stood
at a meagre 0.62 per cent.

Indias exports have become less dependent on world economy
for growth since the September 11 attacks, an eminent economist
said.
FICCI signs MOU with
Dubai Business Council
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the the Indian Business
and Professional Council (IBPC) here as part of FICCIs efforts
to enhance economic cooperation and attract investment from overseas.
