Industry discusses WTO related issues ahead of Cancun meet
The various textile sectors have put forward their views on the various issues of market access, which need to be discussed at the WTO conference in Cancun, Mexico, later this month.

FAITMA seeks 20% subsidy for processing sector
The Federation of All India Textile Manufacturers’ Associations (FAITMA) has sought a 20 per cent subsidy for the processing and finishing segments, in line with the 20 per cent subsidy being proposed for the powerloom sector.

Committee to study problems of jute workers, report in 3 months
The indefinite strike in the jute industry, called by six trade unions led by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha on August 18, has been called off following assurances by the Union labour minister, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, to look into their grievances.

Exporters must gear up to face the challenges of global trading especially in the wake of developed countries bringing in standards which act as non-tariff barriers to control imports from developing nations, a senior government official said.

‘Singapore issues could be introduced thru backdoor’
Trade experts have voiced concern over the mounting pressure to "debundle" the Singapore issues to bring them in WTO negotiations through backdoor in the face of stiff opposition from developing countries.
