Super Fine, Medium Coarse show mixed trend
During the week ended August 28, 2003, cotton prices showed a mixed trend. In the Super Fine category, while DCH-32 lost 240 points and MCU-5 dropped by 140 points, MECH-1 gained 56 points and Shankar-6 spurted by 196 points.

Silk product exports skip the storm
Exporters of silk products from the country, facing a recessionary trend due to the global economic slowdown, seems to be not perturbed by the rising trend of Indian currency appreciating against the US dollar.

Study sees new red in Bt cotton: Pink bollworm
The Pink bollworm is emerging as a major pest in the cotton belt, specially in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, according to field observations, and the toxin in Bt cotton is proving to be ineffective against it.

The efforts towards formation of confederation of Indian textile and clothing industry by Mr Nikhil Meswani, president, Association of Synthetic Fibre Association should be fully supported by the textile trade and industry which is currently undergoing a transformation.
