Paramount organises seminar on "Gearing up for 2005"
E-Tex Staff - New Delhi
The quality mindset is essential for competing in the
global market, therefore all organisations should strive for quality, said Mr
Manjit Singh Saini at the third Paramount seminar - Gearing up for 2005.
The seminar was held at NCUTE, IIT Delhi on September 20, 2003.
Manufacturers, suppliers and quality controllers attended
the seminar, which was addressed by four luminaries from the textile industry:
Manjit Singh Saini, CEO, Paramount Industries, Dr M V S Rao, country chief,
MTL, Prof A K Gupta, co-ordinator, NCUTE, IIT and Mr Sudarshan Sharma, SGS.
The seminar was successful in making the participants aware of the challenges
before the Indian textile industry and educating them on how to tackle these
challenges.
According to Mr Saini, currently the Indian textile
industrys share in the global market is about 12 Billion US dollars, but
the proposed target is to hit 50 billion in 2010. In order to meet the post
WTO challenges and be ahead of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Indian
textile industry, in 2005, will have to work towards having "the best quality
on right time at minimum price". Repeatedly emphasising on quality, Mr
Saini said it should be the driving force in all organisations. The organisations
have to shed the lackadaisical attitude and wake up to the global needs for
quality, price and delivery, added Mr Saini.
Dr Rao, through his presentations, answered queries
pertaining to care labeling regulations and colour fastness testing and chemical
testing. Participants were informed about the various testing methods for care
labelling regulations and fibre content labels. He patiently answered the questions
regarding colour fastness testing (both related to care instruction and not
related to care instruction) and chemical testing.
Prof Gupta said that NCUTE students and faculty should
get first hand information about the textile industry and various aspects associated
with it. Mr Sudarshan Sharma also laid emphasis on quality and change. Citing
anecdotes and drawing metaphors from day-today-life, he said Indian manufacturers
and exporters have to make testing for quality a second nature. In the question-answer
round, participants formed many pertinent queries, which were answered by the
panel and participants also. Mr Saini was happy with the overwhelming response
to this seminar and said Paramount would be conducting many more such seminars.
