The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship
(AOTS) and Juki, the sewing industrial machine major, has announced five-day
production management seminars in Chennai and Delhi.
In
Chennai, the seminars will be held from November 25-29 at Radha Park Inn and
in Delhi from December 1-5 at Crown Plaza Surya Hotel.
Senior experts from Juki Corporation, Japan,
will give practical training to over 100 production heads of countrys
leading apparel houses on production management like new assembly line set up,
time and motion study and process analysis, informed Mr Masahiro Oba,
managing director, Juki India.
Announcing the programme, Mr Masahiro Ishizaka, president,
Juki, Singapore Pte Said that the AOTS and JUKI has been regularly sponsoring
technological and managerial training programmes in India. Developing
talents of those with abilities in production and management is vital for the
more rapid industrial advancement of developing nations, he said.
AOTS also sponsors people for technical and managerial
training programmes in Japan and reported to have given training to more than
90,000 people so far.
The Indian market is the biggest in the region only
second to China and growing. The Indian garment industry should gear up to face
competition in terms of quality and price of its products. The industry requires
a lot of technological upgradation.
Installation
of sophisticated machines and better skills would enable it to gain a competitive
edge in the global trade. If India has to globalise its garment trade,
the industry will have to work the way the world does. Need of the day is to
increase productivity to cut down on cost and this is possible only if Indian
factories move away from piece rate system to assembly line system which will
ensure quick detection of faults, in time alterations and fine tuning worker
skills, said Mr Ishizaka. Juki, which supplies the entire range of apparel
processes, from planning, to cutting, sewing finishing and transport also, provides
support for its customers in terms of services and software.
For example, by assisting apparel manufacturers in
improving productivity and work environment as well as developing efficient
production systems. AOTS-JUKI programmes indeed help in creating awareness
about modern garment making processes and most of all changing the mindsets
about cost effectiveness of the new systems, remarked a spokesperson of
Shahi Exports. The seminars are expected to be attended by the senior people
of the production department of leading export houses and clothing brands of
the country.
