India initiates anti-dumping probe against NTCF from China

PTI - New Delhi

India has initiated anti-dumping investigations against imports of nylon tyre cord fabric (NTCF) from China. The directorate general of anti-dumping and allied duties (DGAD) noted that various economic indicators relating to domestic industry collectively and cumulatively, prima facie indicated it had suffered injury and in view of this the authority initiated anti-dumping investigation to determine the existence, degree and effect of alleged dumping.

The authority observed there was sufficient evidence about the normal value of NTCF in China being significantly higher than the price at which it was being exported to India indicating, prima facie that subject goods were being dumped by exporters from China. “There is sufficient prima facie evidence that the imports of material under consideration (NTCF) have caused material injury to the domestic industry,” DGAD said in a notification recently.

The period of investigation for the purpose of the inquiry is April 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003.

The DGAD’s decision comes in the wake of a petition filed by the Association of Synthetic Fibre Industries (ASFI) on behalf of SRF, NRC, Century Enka, and Nirlon, who produce NTCF in the country and are members of the association. NTCF finds applications in different kinds of automotive tyres such as bus and truck tyres, two wheelers, cycle and light commercial vehicles tyres and animal driven vehicles.
