Technology revolution at Garment Technology Expo 2004
E-Tex Staff - New Delhi
The four-day Garment Technology Expo - 2004 came to an end on January 19, 2004.
Over 100 companies, big and small, from India and overseas, participated in
the event to display their latest machinery and allied products. The participation
covered almost every aspect of garmenting, offering the best technology available
in the industry.
Visitors were satisfied by the range of technology/machinery available at the
expo. As put in by a textile graduate working in Okhla, This exhibition
is very useful for textile students and people in the garment manufacturing.
One gets to see the latest trends in technology and machinery, which is educative
and informative. There were quite a few students from various technical
institutes in Delhi and neighbouring areas. Similar views were expressed by
a group of visitors from Ahmedabad. Most people declared the exhibition the
best in the country for garment technology.
According to Mr Inderjit Sahni, MD, Garment Tech Expo, The success of
this exhibition could be gauged from the advance booking by some participants
for 2005. If one looked around, there was a mind-boggling range of garment machinery,
innovations and products.
Some of the important innovations showcased at the event include Janaksons
steam pressing machines with automatic frames, spreading machines without stretch,
etc, Ramsons garment finishing machines, and laundry and dry cleaning equipment.
The Tajima stall with its TFGN series of embroidery machines was another crowd
puller. Other big names included HCA, Juki, ALT, Singer, and many more.
The Garment Technology Expo - 2004 also acted as a launchpad for the technology
and products that were brought to the country for the first time. For instance,
Pegasus showcased for the first time the MX series overlock machine and W2600
series interlock stitch machine. Also displayed for the first time was single
needle quilting machine by Sterling Creations.
According to Mr Sanjay Khanna, director, Sterling Creations, the quilting machine
from China, because of its high speed and time saving qualities, generated a
lot of interest among buyers. He was optimistic that these machines would find
wide applicability in the quilting industry. Likewise, Mr H K Shin, president,
Hanyang Enterprise Korea who displayed textile-printing machines, was happy
by the interest shown by the people for his machines, though people found the
machines exorbitantly priced. Nevertheless, he was contented that the printing
and screening machines generated curiosity amongst visitors.
A very important feature this time at the Garment Technology Expo 2004 was laser
technology, which is being used for engraving images, texts, logos and textures
on any material ranging from fabrics, acrylic sheets, etc. The exhibitors of
laser cutting and engraving machines included Viable Systems, Santex and Mehta
CAD CAM Systems. Participants were contented with the response they got from
visitors and prospective buyers. Many deals were made at the expo itself and
many would be finalised in due course. In addition, the expo became an ideal
spot for joint ventures of various companies, for instance ALT and CF Italia
joined hands to make CF Projects, which will take on turnkey projects
in the field of apparel, knitwear and leather industry. Also launched was Gems
Collection by the joint venture of Rapos (Thailand based) and Viable Systmes.
