Express textile index numbers of market prices of raw cotton
Super Fine, Medium Coarse witness declines
During the week ended February 19, 2004, cotton prices showed declines. In
the Super Fine variety, MECH-1, MCU-5 and Shankar-6 fell by 140 points each,
while DCH-32 fell by 280 points. In the Medium Coarse category, the trend was
similar with LRA-5166 losing 168 points, SGJ-34 by 196 points and NHH-44 by
112 points.
DEPB issue
The recent reduction in DEPB rate is going to further squeeze the margins
of exporters who are already hard pressed to compete the global trade challenge.
