‘Attempts have been made to create a flat management system’

Rajiv Dayal, CEO, Mafatlal Burlington

In order to maintain our premium position and be competitive in the global market, we have been focussing on product development and design innovations. Towards this end, our team is closely working with global brands. Moreover, our design team also works with design institutes like NIFT. Recently, we have enhanced the application of IT in our production chain for bringing about efficiency into process control, planning and marketing. For reducing the cost of production, apart from the usual measures, we are planning to set up a captive power plant, and looking at capital investments in plant and machinery to produce value-added output which can fetch much

better realisation in the competitive market. So far as the capacity expansion is concerned, we are in the process of evaluating the situation and if there be any need, we may take some decisions. Keeping in view the global demand, we have put in place highly sophisticated quality assurance system. Most importantly, a significant effort has been made in the recent past for revamping the management structure to a flat one from the earlier pyramid one. This has not only removed interfaces, but gone a long way in rationalising the cost of manpower.
