Govt urged to include handloom weavers in scheme

PTI, Coimbatore

The handloom weavers in the district have appealed to the government to utilise them for producing large number of saris and dhotis, meant for its free distribution scheme in the state. About 400 weavers, including 75 women, who assembled at the district collectorate, raised slogans in support of their demand.

Saying that the government was only using the services of powerlooms for the Rs 125 crore scheme, thus neglecting the handloom sector, the weavers submitted a memorandum to the district collector in this regard.
