Metrochem Industries’ Kroma Labs has been recognized as “In-house R&D unit” by the ministry of science and technology, government of India. Metrochem Industries, a government recognized trading house, is the flagship company of the Metrochem group. MCIL is one of the largest manufacturers of dyes and dye intermediates in India. A humble beginning in 1974, with a production capacity of 25 tons in a year, today MCIL has reached a production capacity of 17000 tons in a year. The wide spectrum of MCIL’s product range, also includes fine chemicals, specialty chemicals and pigments.

The company’s exponential growth always had a firm vision behind it. Total dedication to quality and professional excellence, has been the hallmark of Metrochem’s recognition as a customer driven company. Strategic backward integration has become the efficiency quotient for the company, in terms of value addition and superior quality. The company has created a business paradigm in just three decades.

Metrochem has several manufacturing plants spread over 4,00,000 square meters of land to manufacture wide range of dyestuffs, intermediates and fine chemicals. All production plants are equipped with process control laboratory to monitor the quality at various stages of production.

Metrochem, today, boasts one of the finest infrastructure in the dyestuffs industry in India. This includes the company’s own power generation plant of 3 mw, reverse osmosis, D M and water softening plant, cooling towers and chilling plant, ice manufacturing plant, secured land fill site and occupational health center.

The meteoric rise of the company as a reactive dyestuff major is reflected in the steady improvement in productivity, output and in its ever widening product range. Recognizing the need to expand its production activities, the company, in 1997 set up modern production facilities spread over 3,00,000 sq mt at Umraya, near Vadodara. For efficient and quality production, this plant is equipped with spray dryers, spin-flash dryers, falling film evaporators, nauta mixers and electronics data control system. These manufacturing facilities are supported by the reverse osmosis and ice manufacturing plant. Most of the intermediates required, are produced in-house. Such strategic backward integration helps the company to maintain international standards in product quality.

Research and development and quality assurance are the key factors behind company’s success over the years. Continued emphasis on R&D has enabled MCIL to carve a niche in the global markets. Kroma Labs, a division of Metrochem is equipped with the state-of-the-art computerized instrumentation and testing facilities that include HPLC, HPTLC, Data Color International (DCI) for colour matching, gas chromatograph with mass spectrophotometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, auto titrator, particle size analyzer, atomic absorption spectrophotmeter and horizontal padding mangle. A pilot plant fully equipped with reverse osmosis unit, spray dryer, hydrogenator and high pressure autoclave helps in process development, development of new intermediates and custom synthesis.

Over the years, Metrochem has established its strong presence in the international market serving a large customer base spread across more than 30 countries. Today, Metrochem is recognized globally as a hallmark of excellence in terms of quality and customer service.
