Bulgaria a gateway to Central, East European market

India is looking at Bulgaria as a possible hub for tapping the central and east European markets and has sought more economic and scientific collaborations in the field of textiles and pharmaceuticals.

Senior vice-president, FICCI, Mr Onkar S Kanwar said the lack of direct linkage in banking relations between the two countries as one of the main hurdles in further enhancing bilateral trade.

This and other trade issues were discussed at the 11th India-Bulgaria joint business council meeting organised by FICCI recently.

Strategy for jute
The recent approval by the Planning Commission to set up a jute technology mission on the lines of the cotton technology mission, though late, but an apt move. The effort once implemented will go a long way in rejuvenating the jute sector which has so far been not successful in drawing the attention of policy makers.
