Natural fibre composites and its potential as building materials
Increasing concern about global warming, primarily due to deforestation has led to the ban on use of wood in government buildings. Subsequently, a large action plan for the development of wood substitute has resulted in creation of more awareness about the use of natural fibre-based building materials.

Fibre applications in technical textiles
The driving force for important fibre developments, especially in the past two decades has been the ever increasing applications for fibrous material in non-conventional sectors such as protective clothing, medical devices and health care products, automotive components, building material, geotextiles, agricultural devices, sport and leisurewear, filter media, environmental protection.

Lightweight nonwovens: H1 technology
H1 needlepunching technology is one of the modern developments in dry laid nonwoven technologies. The needle zone in the H1 technology is not flat as in the case of conventional needleloom.

Strategy for jute
The recent approval by the Planning Commission to set up a jute technology mission on the lines of the cotton technology mission, though late, but an apt move. The effort once implemented will go a long way in rejuvenating the jute sector which has so far been not successful in drawing the attention of policy makers.
