companies prospects in quota-free era
The new era of quota-free trade in textiles and apparels has started
from January 1, 2005. However, views seem to be divided sharply
on the possible benefits of this to Indian textile companies.

dismayed at reduction in DEPB rates for cotton textiles
While synthetic textile exporters are happy with the revision in
the DEPB rates, cotton textile exporters are dismayed at the reduction
in the rates for their products, viz, yarns, fabrics and made-ups.
The rates have been reduced by a further 15 per cent.
DEPB
increased for synthetic textile exports
The much awaited increase in the DEPB (Duty Entitlement Pass Book)
rates for synthetic textile items was announced by the government
on December 30, 2004.
FIEO
welcomes revision in DEPB rates for textiles
Welcoming the new duty entitlement passbook rates for textiles,
the Federation of Indian Export Organisations said the move was
a positive signal from the government on the eve of entering the
new regime with the abolition of textile quotas.
Vaghela
to honour handicraft exporters
With handicraft exports set to cross Rs 11,500 crore this fiscal,
the textiles minister Mr Shankarsinh Vaghela will present handicraft
export performance awards for 2002-03 on January 12.

dismantling likely to bring in Rs 1,40,000 crore
Investment worth Rs 1,40,000 crore is likely to be made in the textiles
sector with the dismantling of the multi-fibre agreement (MFA) which
came into effect from Saturday, according to an ASSOCHAM study.

Tamil Nadus Theni-based Shri Renuga Textiles has developed
a unique evaporating technology for effective treatment of textile
effluents.
Reduction
in DEPB rates unwarranted: NITMA
Northern India Textile Mills Association (NITMA) said the
recent reduction in DEPB rates on cotton products was unwarranted
and could lead to a decline in the exports of both cotton yarn and
fabrics.
States
endorse white paper on VAT
In a major step towards introduction of value-added tax from April
2005, states have endorsed a white paper on the new
tax regime, which would be formally issued on January 17.
