5th Annual Lycra Images Fashion Awards presented to best of the best in retail

Mr Hemchandra Jhaveri, managing director of Madura Garments won the Most Admired Brand Professional of the year award at the 5th Annual Lycra Images Fashion Awards (LIFA’05) in Mumbai recently.

Other winners included among others, Mr Kumar Sitaraman, managing director of Lifestyle International for the most admired retail professional of the year, and Mr Kishore Biyani, managing director of Pantaloon Retail India Ltd, the fashion retail visionary of the Year in the Excellence Category.

The LIFA celebrates achievements of fashion and lifestyle brands, retailers and professionals who have done exceptionally well in the year just gone by on all deliverables. Over 5,000 brand conscious consumers voted for LIFA’05 to select those who are constantly reinventing themselves to keep pace with the dynamics of the fashion industry, to remain forerunners in shaping the future of fashion in India. The awards are in three categories - Consumer Awards (which have two categories, Achievers’ Choice and Masses Choice), Performance Awards and Excellence Awards.

“LIFA recognises the true worth of brands and retailers among consumers as they are based on the verdict of over 5,000 brand conscious consumers, including some 750 celebrities and achievers who have voted for their most favoured brands,” Mr Amitabh Taneja, chief convenor of LIFA said.

Mr Shankersinh Vaghela, Union minister for textiles, who presided over the awards function and gave away the first award - the Most Admired Brand of the Year Smart Casuals to Color Plus - said, “On the subject of fashion, I can say that Indian textile exports are going extremely well. In the new situation, we hope to achieve the $ 50 billion export target in the next five years, from the present $ 13 billion.” He added, “I also wear Color Plus!”

The glittering awards ceremony, which included performances by Remo Fernandes, Shekhar Suman and Alisha Chinai, marked the end of Images Fashion Forum 2005 (IFF’05). IFF spokesperson, Meher Castelino said, “The Lycra Images Fashion Awards, presented at the Images Fashion Forum, are now recognised as the Oscars of the Indian fashion and retail industry, responsible for promoting excellence in all aspects of the business of fashion in the country. “In the last five years, Images Fashion Forum has become a major platform for Indian and international experts to meet and become a knowledge hub for Indian fashion and retail companies through a sharing of experiences.
