global fight between cotton and manmade fibres
Even as the global demand for cotton continues to grow, that
for manmade fibres (MMFs) is moving up at a much faster pace.
If one goes by the forecast made by Mr Peter Driscoll, managing
director, PCI Fibres, the consumer demand for MMF in the next
five years will be double that for cotton.
Vaghela
keeps the textile interest alive
Within fortnight of the global textile industry moving on
to a different era of trading in a quota-less regime, the
Union textile minister, Mr Shankarsinh Vaghela, visited the
hardcore textile belts in Tamil Nadu Coimbatore, Tirupur
and Erode, and gave the industrialists the much-needed boost
to retain their confidence to survive in the open competitive
global arena.

Era Textiles plans Rs 50 crore investments
The Rs 120-crore Hanil Era Textiles is embarking upon a modernisation-cum-diversification
programme at a total project cost of Rs 50 crore. The company
which so far has got only spinning facility with 80,000 spindles
for worsted and cotton/blended yarn, is now also putting up
weaving capacity with 72 looms at its existing site in Patalganga,
Maharashtra.
