'Silk Mark' scheme launched at Hyderabad
The 'Silk Mark' scheme was launched by the Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI)
here. 'Silk Mark' is a label for purity of natural silk products and protects
the interests of the consumers, SMOI CEO Ms Vandana Rao said.
All silk products like saris, dress materials, made-up furnishing
materials that reach the consumers can carry the 'Silk Mark' label, if the retailers
and manufacturers are confident that the products are made of 100 per cent natural
silk goods only, she said. Manufacturers of twisted silk yarn, raw silk and
grey fabrics could also use the 'Silk Mark' so that the manufacturers of silk
product could source their raw materials from them with confidence, she added.
Faze Three bags Rs 18 crore order from Wal-Mart
Faze Three Ltd has bagged an order worth Rs 18 crore from the US retail giant
Wal-Mart Stores for supply of home furnishing items. Out of the total order
of Rs 18 crore, orders worth Rs 10 crore is confirmed and would be executed
by December 2005, Faze Three informed the stock exchange, Mumbai (BSE).
This would be followed by the balance order of Rs 8 crore
which is the order projection given by Wal-Mart.
ITEC formed with 25 member countries
The International Textile Education Consortium (ITEC) has been formed recently
with Mr M S Mathivanan, president, Textile Association of India, as chairman,
and Prof Phillip Yeoung of Hong Kong University as general secretary, and five
vice chairmen have been appointed from different regions and one executive member
from all the participating countries. The consortium has 25 countries, and is
headquartered in India.
The objective of the consortium is to have constant interaction between member
countries on the latest textile practices, etc, to impart training to textile
workers, assist in research, etc. ITEC will approach the UN for support in conducting
research projects in natural fibres in different universities.
