AEPC for NTC University

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has recommended the setting up of National Textile and Clothing University in the country for motivating education and research in textiles, said its chairman, Mr A Sakthivel during the 26th AGM of the Council in New Delhi. In addition to the existing 12 Apparel Training and Design Centres, he also proposed setting up of new two centres. AEPC has recently inked an MoU with National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation to provide training to students from backward classes. Highlighting the recommendations made by the Council to the Board of Trade, Mr Sakthivel said the duty structures for MMF sector should be made neutral. The import duties on textiles be brought down to zero and TUFS should be extended till 2010. Further, he suggested refund of duties like state/municipal/panchayat levies, payment of service tax, etc.
