IHEs Academic Week
The
Institute of Home Economics (IHE), University of Delhi, recently organised Academic
Week to motivate and encourage students skills, ideas, in fashion
designing and textile technology. A number of activities and competitions were
held and creations of the students were showcased. For instance, students
imaginations were exercised to make the petticoat a fashion garment. Innovative
use of zardozi, woven texture like brocade, lace, frills, embroidery, painting
or printed material, contrasting colour, slit or using silhouette in a big way
by increasing the panels or kalies to add new dimension under a plain (transparent
/net/chiffon/ lace) sari depicted a concoction of fantasy and reality creating
magnificent appeal. Undergraduate students of textiles and clothing created
some very colourful tie and dye wall hangings, aimed at the festive season.
A sari draping competition was held to bring out the versatility of the sari.
The students of the post-graduate programme acquire comprehensive knowledge
of clothing and textiles technology through theoretical coaching, laboratory
work, research and exposure to industry.
