IHE’s ‘Academic Week’

The Institute of Home Economics (IHE), University of Delhi, recently organised ‘Academic Week’ to motivate and encourage students’ skills, ideas, in fashion designing and textile technology. A number of activities and competitions were held and creations of the students were showcased. For instance, students’ imaginations were exercised to make the petticoat a fashion garment. Innovative use of zardozi, woven texture like brocade, lace, frills, embroidery, painting or printed material, contrasting colour, slit or using silhouette in a big way by increasing the panels or kalies to add new dimension under a plain (transparent /net/chiffon/ lace) sari depicted a concoction of fantasy and reality creating magnificent appeal. Undergraduate students of textiles and clothing created some very colourful tie and dye wall hangings, aimed at the festive season. A sari draping competition was held to bring out the versatility of the sari. The students of the post-graduate programme acquire comprehensive knowledge of clothing and textiles technology through theoretical coaching, laboratory work, research and exposure to industry.
