The second VDMA Textile Machinery Symposium in India
The VDMA Textile Machinery Association is organising the second German Machinery
Technology Symposium in India which will be held at The Residency Hotel
in Coimbatore from December 6-7, 2005. Assisted by the Indo-German Chamber of
Commerce (IGCC), Chapter of Chennai, and other local partners, and politically
supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and the German consulate
general in Chennai, this event will aim to further strengthen the position of
the Indian textile industry by offering technical solutions and a platform for
discussions between German and Indian textile Industry leaders. Forty experts
from 35 well-known German textile companies will report about all areas of the
textile chain: spinning, weaving, knitting (even warp knitting), finishing,
non-woven and, moreover, chemical fibres - all looking forward to meet the decision
makers of the Indian textile industry. About 600 participants are expected.
India represents one of the main textile markets for the German textile industry.
Above all, the export of finishing and spinning machinery to India has grown
exceedingly in the last five years. The prospects for 2005 are prosperous, too.
In the first half of the year, the export of spinning machinery from Germany
to India noted a plus of 366% up to 52 million Euro comparing to 2004. The export
of finishing machines rose about 38% up to 9 million Euro.
Even the weaving machinery sector gained in importance and reached an upswing
of about 20% up to 24 million Euro. Germany is the largest supplier of textile
technology to India and ranks first among textile machinery exports to India.
Already in the first half of 2005, the exports increased by about 82%.
After the abolition of the quota system, India gains in importance for the European
- and especially the German - textile market. As a consequence, the demand of
quality machinery and related technology has risen and the interest in German
high-tech technology has enlarged remarkably. This has been the cause for VDMA
to organize a symposium in India. Besides, the Indian government aspires a growth
of textile exports from about 13 billion US$ right now to 50 billion US$ in
the year 2010. This objective involves new investments of up to 32 billion US$
and an upswing of the economic situation in India. The German industry wants
to play an important role in this evolution.
The VDMA Textile Machinery Association represents 90% of German textile machinery
manufacturers with about 130 of the most important textile companies, most of
them being among the greatest names on the global market. With their high technical
precision, the customer-specific production and the after-sales-service, Germany
ranks number one among the leading suppliers of textile machinery, covering
about 30% of worldwide exports. The VDMA invites all leaders of the Indian textile
industry to participate in this high profile event.
